What Is D4D?
Distance For Difference (D4D) is a registered non-profit (NPC) based in South Africa. Since its founding in 2005, D4D has used sport as a platform to raise funds for and awareness of children’s charities across the country.
Here’s how they do it:
- They mobilize runners, cyclists, swimmers, and walkers to cover distances in service of fundraising — “every meter counts.”
- D4D also organizes high-impact flagship events such as THE500 24-Hour Cycling & Spinning Challenge and The Gratitude Run which unite communities, raise funds, and channel support to children’s charities.
- Over its twenty years of work, D4D has raised more than R13 million for over 60 children’s charities (like Kingdom Kids, Little Angels, Sylvia’s House, Heartlands Baby Sanctuary, and many more).
- They strive for maximum impact and transparency: after covering direct costs, remaining proceeds go entirely to beneficiary charities.
So when we ride, we’re doing more than logging kilometres. We’re contributing to brighter futures for children who need it most.
The 500 Challenge:
One of D4D’s signature events is THE500, a 24-hour cycling and spinning challenge. Riders aim to cover as much distance as possible over a full day, pushing both physical and mental limits.
This event is more than a test of endurance — it’s a communal rallying point. Participants, teams, schools, companies — all are invited to be part of the movement.
Because D4D is celebrating 20 years of impact in 2025, this edition of THE500 carries extra weight. It’s an opportunity to double down on impact and visibility.
How Africa Surge Is Powering the Movement
We believe in showing up, in more ways than one. That’s why Africa Surge’s support means so much. Here’s what they’re bringing to the table (and why it matters):
- T-shirts & Branded Gear — Having matched kits builds team identity and signals to everyone that we ride with purpose.
- Food & Refreshments for Zwifters — Endurance demands fuel. Africa Surge is helping keep riders nourished, so they can stay strong for the full 24 hours.
- Additional Essentials & Logistics Support — Their contributions help smooth out the operational challenges that come with an event of this scale.
In short: they’re helping lift the load so we can all focus on riding — and giving.
Why This Matters So Much
When a supplier like Africa Surge steps into a philanthropic role, it’s a reminder that business relationships can — and should — be bridges to community impact. Their sponsorship underscores that we’re not in this alone; together we can amplify.
For us, the math is simple:
More resources = more riders supported
More riders supported = more distance logged
More distance = more funds for children in need
But the intangible return is even richer: unity, purpose, pride. When riders put on that T-shirt and pedal in a group, there’s a shared energy, a shared cause. Together, we can turn distance into difference — for children who deserve every chance.
